Smoke detectors save a house from total loss on South Lake Dr

Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) responded to a house on South Lake Dr. A neighbor heard smoke alarms going off and noticed light smoke coming from fireplace chimney in the unoccupied house .
Upon arrival of WFR at the house there was no visible flames in the house but appeared to be smoke filled through the windows.  Forced entry was made into the house and the fire was extinguished. The house sustained substantial smoke damage and light fire damage.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Watertown Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to have good and in working order smoke alarms. Batteries should be changed at least annually and detectors should be replaced according to manufactured recommendations.
