The Engineering Department is responsible for all Public Works Projects. Projects include city streets, sanitary sewers, lift stations, storm sewers, detentions ponds, urban system projects, landfill improvements, airport improvements, and industrial park additions. The department develops and enforces engineering construction standards for subdivisions and municipal infrastructure, and supervises projects engineered by consultants.
The department provides surveying, design, construction inspection, project management services, and (GIS) for the department and other City Departments. These services include the following activities:
Surveying and Computer-aided Drafting
Topographic, construction, and legal surveys for other City Departments. Plats and plans are prepared utilizing computer-aided drafting programs.
Design and Construction Contracts
Design street construction and reconstruction projects. Conduct computer modeling and analyses for sanitary and storm sewer collection systems. Inspect or coordinate inspection of wastewater collection lines, storm sewer lines, and street projects constructed by the city.
Geographic Information System (GIS)
Set up and maintain mapping and record keeping for City GIS.
Development Services
The department provides subdivision and site development plan review, and plat approval.
Special Assessments
The division prepares assessment resolutions and plans for public improvements completed for private property owners.
