    Captain Scott McMahon is a native of Big Stone City, SD. Scott graduated from Ortonville MN High School in 1989. He attended Ridgewater Community College in Willmar, MN and earned an Associate in Arts Degree in Law Enforcement. He completed the Law Enforcement Skills Program at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, MN during the summer of 1991. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Marty College in Watertown. Scott earned a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University in 2012. Scott was employed with the South Dakota Department of Corrections from 1992-1994. During this time he worked as a Correctional Officer with the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, SD. Scott started his career in Law Enforcement with the Watertown Police Department on April 01 1994. During this time Scott had special interest in traffic safety and motor vehicle collision investigations. He was also involved with the Field Training Officer Program for nearly nine years. Scott has served the Watertown Police Department in the following positions: Police Sergeant, Police Captain and Assistant Chief of Police. Scott currently serves as the Captain of Support Services. Scott graduated from the 234th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia in September of 2008.

June 8-19th 2009 Target/IACP Law Enforcement Business Fellowship Program held in Minneapolis, MN. One of four participants across the nation chosen to participate in the evaluation of a pilot program sponsored by Target and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. An article pertaining to this program was Published in the June issue of the Police Chief magazine.

July – Sept. 2008 FBI National Academy held in Quantico, Virginia. Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy program, held at the FBI Academy, offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative , management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. On average, these officers have 19 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive –level positions.
