A plat is a map of a piece of land showing the exact size and location of the lots, blocks, streets, easements, and public grounds drawn to scale. When filed with the county register of deeds, a plat becomes a permanent record and legal instrument whereby the location and boundaries of separate parcels within a piece of land are identified.
