Code of Conduct

The Watertown Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is committed to creating an atmosphere of respect and courtesy at all facilities. Appropriate social behavior and treatment are expected of all department employees, patrons, and program participants. Physical, mental, verbal, or emotional abuse will not be tolerated at any time.

This Code of Conduct outlines acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Department employees and Board members are authorized to enforce these rules.

Anyone engaging in inappropriate conduct may be subject to immediate removal for a period of time deemed appropriate. In some cases, this may include a permanent ban from department programs and facilities.


Prohibited Behaviors

The following activities are not allowed at any Watertown Parks, Recreation & Forestry facility or park:

  • Harassment or intimidation, including words, gestures, body language, or menacing behavior. This includes conduct through social media.
    (Keep it kind. Keep it clean. Don’t threaten or abuse. Be truthful. Be respectful. Be proactive. Share your thoughts with us.)
  • Physical contact with another individual or staff member in an angry, violent, or threatening manner.
  • Any demonstration of sexual activity or sexually suggestive behavior.
  • Carrying or concealing weapons or devices that may be used as weapons.
  • Use or possession of illegal drugs or alcohol at Parks, Recreation & Forestry property where possession is not allowed.
  • Abuse of department equipment, supplies, or property.
  • Theft.
  • Littering.
  • Use of tobacco products on City-owned playgrounds and facilities at any time youth activities are occurring.
  • Continuous poor sportsmanship or over-aggressiveness by players or spectators.
  • Any other behavior deemed unacceptable by those in charge of the facility or activity.

Consequences

Individuals who violate this Code of Conduct may:

  • Receive a verbal or written warning
  • Be removed from the facility
  • Have membership or program privileges suspended for a period of time\
  • Lose membership or prepaid passes
  • Be permanently banned from department programs and facilities (in cases of repeated or serious violations)

Job Opportunities

Refund Policy

The department will refund 100% of program fees up to two weeks prior to the start of an activity. Refund requests made after the two-week period are refunded at 50% of the program cost. After a program has started, no refunds will be given except for injury or illness. The Director reserves the right to alter this policy based on circumstances.


Persons With Disabilities

The City of Watertown does not discriminate based on disability. The department will make reasonable accommodations to allow access to programs and facilities. Please contact 605-882-6260 at least 24 hours in advance if you need accommodations.


Insurance

The department does not carry medical or accidental insurance for program participants. Due to cost, this coverage cannot be included in program fees. Families are encouraged to maintain personal health insurance that provides adequate coverage.
