[ARCHIVED] Fifteen Establishments Pass Alcohol Compliance Checks

On December 11, 2025, the Watertown Police Department conducted routine alcohol compliance checks to ensure adherence to laws regulating the sale of alcohol products to individuals under 21 years of age.

A total of 18 licensed establishments were checked. Fifteen establishments passed the compliance checks, while three establishments failed and were found to have sold alcohol products to an individual under 21 years of age.

The clerks involved in these sales were issued citations for providing alcohol products to persons under 21 years old.

The Watertown Police Department reminds all alcohol retailers that the legal age to purchase or possess alcoholic beverages in South Dakota is 21. Businesses and their employees play a critical role in preventing underage drinking and the associated public safety risks.

This enforcement effort aligns with the department’s broader “Keep Watertown’s Streets Safe – Your Best Route Home is a Sober One” initiative. By promoting responsible alcohol service, we aim to reduce underage drinking and its connection to impaired driving, ultimately helping to create a safer Watertown for everyone.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
