On September 25, 2013 at 0805 hrs the Watertown Police Department responded to theintersection of 3rd Avenue NW and 3rd St NW for a report of a motor vehicle collisioninvolving a Watertown School District bus.
Through the investigation it was discovered the Watertown School Bus was travelingeastbound on 3rd Avenue NW and stopped for a stop sign at 3rd Avenue’s intersectionwith 3rd St NW; while a 1998 Chevy Lumina, operated by a 17 year old male, was alsotraveling eastbound on 3rd Avenue NW behind the school bus. The juvenile male driverreported to law enforcement that he looked away and did not see the bus stopped at thestop sign and he collided with the rear of the bus.
Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the collision location and assisted with the scene.One of the student passengers on the school bus was released to their parents afterreporting a possible head injury. No other injuries were reported.
The juvenile male was issued a citation for Careless Driving and released on scene.
Careless Driving is a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a$500 fine.
