On 3-3-16 at approximately 1909hrs officers attempted to make contact with Adam Buus in the 400 block of 3rd St. NW. Initial contact was for an on-going case involving the violation of a protection order and violation of a conditional bond in reference to a domestic violence arrest.

Upon officers attempting to make contact with Adam he took steps to barricade himself inside of a detached garage. Comments were then made by Adam which led officers to believe he was a danger to himself. Based on Adam’s actions the Watertown Police Department SWAT team was requested to the incident location.

Communication with Adam was established and he began speaking with a negotiator. Through the negotiation process OC gas was introduced into the detached garage and Adam was taken into custody without further incident.

Adam is currently being held at the Codington County Detention Center pending a mental health evaluation and bond hearing. Adam was charged with Obstructing, Resisting Arrest, Violation Protection Order 2 counts, Violation of Conditional bond domestic, Ingestion, and Possession Marijuana less 2 ounces which relate to this incident and ongoing criminal investigations.
