WFR Responds to early morning house fire

Watertown Fire Rescue crews were called to a report of a house fire at 44435 US Highway 212 west of Watertown at 2:40am on 4/10/2018. The homeowner reports to waking up to smoke in the bedroom and fire in the hallway of the house. Both occupants were able to exited the house through the bedroom window. They then flagged down a car to have them call 911. When crews arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the eves of the house and black stained windows in the part of the house. Crews made entry and found fire on the first floor. The fire was contained to one room but the house received heavy heat and smoke damage. Crews were on scene for approximately 3 hours. The homeowners were not injured in the incident. Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by Codington County Sheriff Office and Henry Fire Department. At this time the cause of the fire is under investigation.
