FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Rob Beynon, Street Superintendent
The Watertown Street Department would like to remind citizens of the snow removal procedures and policies for the City of Watertown.
When a snowfall of 2” or more occurs in our community, the Street Superintendent will issue a snow alert. Thus, plowing will begin with Highways 81, 212, 20, emergency snow routes, and schools. It will continue with streets being plowed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Avenues will be plowed on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (or until said street/avenue has been completed). Deviation from these procedures may occur due to storm severity and allocation of resources.
As per provisions stated in ordinance 18.0312A, it is unlawful for a person or corporation to cause snow or ice to be removed from private property and deposited on a public street; or public parking lot from which the Street Department customarily removes snow or ice. Also, no person shall deposit, or cause to be deposited any snow or ice on a fire hydrant.
The Police Department may remove or cause to be removed any vehicle found in violation to the provisions of Section 18.0101 & 18.0102 within the City Ordinance. Such Ordinance states that any parking on streets, avenues, or snow routes during their scheduled plowing will result in a fine of $40. If remaining after 72 hours, the fine will be doubled to $80.
