[ARCHIVED] WFR Responds to house fire

At 1:17am Saturday morning Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a house fire in the 200 block of 3rd Ave SE.  Upon arrival fire crews were met with heavy fire on a patio in the rear of the home and the fire was rapidly spreading to the inside of the home.  Fire crews simultaneously attacked the fire at the rear of the home while crews made entry into the front of the home to search for pets.  All of the occupants were outside when crews arrived. The fire was quickly extinguished.    Fire crews were hampered in their efforts due to weather conditions.  The high heat and humidity limited working time.  Fire crews were on scene for about 3 hours.  One pet was lost, and one firefighter was transported to PLH for possible heat exhaustion.  WFR was assisted on scene by Watertown Police Department, Watertown Municipal Utilities, Codington County Emergency Management and the WFR Chaplain.
