At 8:17 am July 1st, Watertown fire rescue was called to a motor vehicle accident with airbag deployment. Medic 5, Medic 2 and Rescue 51 were dispatched to 164th St. and 457th Ave. The accident involved 2 vehicles at highway speeds, one pickup was upright in a field with airbags deployed. The other vehicle (an avalanche) was upside down in the ditch with airbags deployed. One patient needed to be extricated. Medic crews transported 4 patients to PLH with injuries. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. WFR was assisted by Codington County sheriff's, Highway patrol, performance towing, active towing and local volunteer firefighter/1st responders.
