[ARCHIVED] Increased criminal activity in Southeast Watertown-UPDATE

UPDATE:
On October 28th, 2014 Watertown Police Department responded to a report of a male suspect
attempting to burglarize a residential garage. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended
by Watertown Patrol Officers after a brief search.

Upon further investigation, Mr. Waylan ComesFlying, age 34, of Watertown, SD, was arrested
for two counts of 1st Degree Arson and two counts of 1st Degree Burglary. Additional charges
are pending. ComesFlying is being held at the Codington County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

1st Degree Arson is a Class 2 Felony which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years imprisonment with a fine of $50,000.

1st Degree Burglary is a Class 2 Felony which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years imprisonment with a fine of $50,000.

This arrest is the product of teamwork and commitment between the Citizens of Watertown, Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and Codington County Search and Rescue.

In the past several weeks, the Watertown Police Department has taken several reports from the
southeast part of Watertown. The reports involve burglaries of garages, vehicles as well as occupied and unoccupied residences.

During the same time period, Watertown Fire Rescue has responded to suspicious structural and vehicle fires in this same part of Watertown.

It is unknown if the increased amount of criminal activity and fires are related at this time. The
Watertown Police Department is asking for the public’s help in reporting any suspicious activity. If suspicious activity is observed immediately contact the Watertown Police Department at 882-6210.

The WPD reminds you to secure your property to prevent yourself from becoming a victim and do not approach unknown individual(s).

A reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved.
