Grass Fire

Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) responded to a baler on fire at 16644 449th Avenue at 3:40pm.  Upon arrival, the fire had spread to grass in field and was spreading towards houses and other buildings rapidly.  Wind was out of the West at approximately 20-30 mph.  First arriving brush trucks started to extinguish fire on leading edge of the fire.  Florence Fire was dispatched to assist with mutual aid.  Florence fire went to baler on fire and extinguished it and extinguished perimeter of fire.  Fire crews were able to control the blaze in approximately 30 minutes.  Crews remained on scene extinguishing round bales and rail road ties that were directly in the fire path.  Approximately 50 acres of grass field/pasture were burned.  WFR crews were assisted by Codington County Sheriffs Office and Florence Volunteer Fire Department.  

WFR would like to thank the Florence Fire with there quick response and help in controlling the blaze.   

No injuries were reported.  WFR crews were on scene for 3 hours and 45 minutes.
