As summer arrives and the temperatures begin to warm up the Watertown Police Department has started to receive complaints once again about 4-wheelers riding through road ditches in the area. The Police Department would like to remind operators of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) that Watertown City Ordinance, 19.01403, prohibits these vehicles from being operated in all areas other than a public highway or City Street. This means that riding in road ditches is illegal within the Watertown City limits of Watertown. The only exception to this is when the operator has obtained, and has in their possession, written consent from the property owner, if driven on private property.
All Terrain Vehicles that are operated on the roadway must also be licensed, have a muffler, horn, working lights, and a rear view mirror. Watertown Police Officers would also like to remind you to please ride safely and obey all traffic laws.
