Paving of Watertown’s roundabout is expected to be complete and open to traffic by the weekend of July 25-26, 2015. Driving through a roundabout is different from a standard intersection, the public is asked to remember a few simple rules:
Vehicles• Slow down and keep to the right as you approach the roundabout• Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk• Yield to traffic on your left already in the roundabout• Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in traffic• Traffic moves in a counterclockwise direction• Do not stop in the roundabout• Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk as you exit
If you encounter Emergency Vehicles• If you have not entered the roundabout, pull over and allow emergency vehicles to pass• If you have entered the roundabout, continue to your exit, then pull over and allow emergency vehicles to pass• Avoid stopping in the roundabout
Trucks• Both the truck and the trailer will need to use the truck apron to navigate the roundabout• Trucks with 53 foot trailers should have no problem fitting through the roundabout• Trucks with trailers longer than 53 feet may have problems fitting through the roundabout and should avoid this intersection
Pedestrians• Use designated crosswalk areas only• Cross to the median island when safe• Wait in the median island to cross other lane of traffic when safe• Never cross to the center island
Bicyclists• Can proceed as a vehicle or pedestrian, whichever is more comfortable• Walk your bicycle through the crosswalks if you are proceeding as a pedestrian
