On Tuesday, October 27th the Annual Public Safety Volunteer Appreciation Banquet was held at the Elk’s Cub in Watertown. The evening recognizes and thanks the volunteers from the following groups: Lake Area Radio Klub (LARK), Weather Spotters, Codington County Search and Rescue, Watertown PD Reserve Officers, WPD Wives beside the Badge, WPD Chaplains, and WPD Volunteers. At the banquet each year one volunteer is chosen to receive the “Friend of Public Safety Volunteer of the Year” award. This year the Watertown Police Department selected Margaret Schneider to be the 17th recipient of the award.Margaret is a tremendous asset to the police department. She goes above and beyond expectations as a volunteer. Some of the things she has done to better our agency and Watertown include: she helped raise donations for the K9 Christmas tree fundraiser sponsored by the Watertown Community Foundation held at the Watertown Regional Library last year, she was very helpful in assisting with Camp Chance in July by assisting in preparing name tags, folding t-shirts, restocking supplies, etc. in advance of the Camp and she also volunteered to work at Camp Chance all three weeks. In September, Margaret was instrumental in helping to organize the first ever “GO BLUE WEEK” in Watertown to honor local law enforcement and their families, and just last week Margaret assisted in filling 700 Halloween treat bags so they can be delivered by Watertown Police Officers to 3rd & 4th graders along with a safety talk to help keep them safe on Halloween. Margaret and her grandkids often deliver home baked goodies to the police department which are always delicious and appreciated. Margaret is very supportive of the Watertown Police Department and the community and we appreciate her positive attitude and willingness to help out where needed.
