WFR responds to Kitchen Fire at Walmart

Watertown Fire Rescue crews were called to a fire in the deli at Walmart at 12:15pm on Feb. 10th, 2020. Once on scene crews found that Walmart had a fire in one of the deep fat fryers. Prior to the Fire Departments arrival an employee of Walmart pulled the Ansul extinguishing system over the fryer and it completely extinguished the fire. On scene fire crews checked for any fire extension and isolated the electrical breakers in the deli area. No fire extension was found. It appears the fire started while Walmart employees were doing general cleaning of the fryers and filtering the oil. One of the fryers was low on oil and the fryer was not completely shut down. The deli area was cleared of smoke using the overhead exhaust fans. Damage was minimal and the store will have the system up and in a couple of days.
