FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Watertown Public Works Department would like to remind the public that before any work is conducted in the right-of-way, a permit must be obtained from the City Engineer’s Office. This includes removing, installing or replacing sidewalks, curb cuts, landscaping, and replacing or expanding driveway approaches, and public or private utility work. If the site already has a building permit, then a separate permit for removing and installing sidewalks, curb cuts, landscaping and installing driveway approaches is not required.

A permit is also required for any temporary storage of construction materials in the public right-of-way. Grading permits are required from the City for grading on private property. All permit forms are also available on the City Engineering Division’s web page: https://www.watertownsd.us/508/Permits The permit requirements help to ensure public safety and that all public improvements are restored appropriately.

If you have any questions, please contact the Watertown Engineering Department at 882-6202.
