WFR Responds to Back to Back Grass Fires

On 06/04/2021 at approximately 3:40 pm Watertown Fire Rescue Units responded to SD HWY 20 near the area of the National Guard Readiness Center for a grass fire.  When the first unit arrived on scene they found smoke blowing across the highway and multiple small fires in the ditch along SD HWY 20.  Crews quickly extinguished the flames.  Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted on the scene by Watertown Police Department.  Crews remained on scene for approximately 20 minutes.  

At approximately 4:00 pm Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of 17719 454th Ave for a grass fire that appeared to burn into a shelter belt.  Crews began to extinguish the fire when the land owner arrived.  The land owner requested that they watch the fire and make it into a controlled burn.  WFR crews extinguished the fires that were adjacent to the controlled burn.  Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour.
