At approximately 8:39AM, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the HWY 81 round about or 5th St SE and 20th Ave SE for a tractor trailer with a brake that is burning. Upon WFR arrival, the driver of the semi had extinguished the flames with the fire extinguisher that he had in the cab of his truck. The brake and wheel were still very hot so WFR firefighters used roughly 200 gallons of water from Engine 4 to cool the area from approximately 350 degrees down to a manageable 80 degrees. Losses were limited to the rear tag axle. WFR responded with three firefighters and one engine. Scene time was approximately 20minutes.
