On 1/13/23 at approximately 8:50 am Watertown Fire Rescue was called for a structure fire in the area of 177th St and 443rd Ave. Watertown Fire Rescue responded with an engine, water tender, and command vehicle. Mutual aid was also requested from the Hazel Volunteer Fire Department and Henry Volunteer Fire Department. When crews arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the attic area of the structure. Crews immediately deployed handlines to try and knock down the fire. Crews battled to get control of the fire. Multiple attempts to try and gain access to the seat of the fire failed. Due to safety concerns the decision to go defensive and protect exposures was made. The structure was a total loss. There were no injuries. Crews remained on scene for approximately 5 hours. Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted by the Hazel Volunteer Fire Department, Henry Volunteer Fire Department, Codington County Sherriff's Office, Codington County Emergency Management, HD Electric, and Sioux Rural Water.
