WFR responded to a report of a two vehicle highway accident located on Highway 212 west of Watertown at approximately 4:45 p.m. Initial response included a Fire Engine, 1 Ambulance, and Law Enforcement. On scene, crews noted a two vehicle accident, with both vehicles coming to rest in the north ditch of the west bound lanes. A second ambulance was requested immediately by Watertown Fire Rescue personnel due to a possible 7 patients of unknown injury status. It would quickly be discovered by initial response personnel that 5 individuals from one vehicle had self extricated themselves to a passerby's vehicle and suffered only minor injuries. They would decline transport to Prairie Lakes Hospital by ambulance. An individual from the other vehicle had self extricated while the other individual would require extrication by Watertown Fire Rescue personnel. Both of these individuals were evaluated, treated, and transported by Watertown Fire Rescue ambulance. Fire and Law Enforcement personnel remained on scene to assist Performance Towing with vehicle recovery. No injuries were noted to response personnel who were on scene for approximately 45 minutes. Patchy Ice caused by blowing snow freezing on the road was a factor in the accident.
