General Information

Thank you for expressing an interest in an internship with the Watertown Police Department. It is the goal of our program to provide an intern with a unique and rewarding experience. The student will experience first-hand the activities of the Watertown Police Department, as well as many other affiliated criminal justice entities. Our internship program is not merely an observational ride-along. The program is designed to provide educational and work-related experience to the student while he/she does some meaningful work that benefits our agency.
This application must be completed in its entirety and submitted by the apropriate deadline. Interns are selected through a competitive process that may involve a review of the applicant’s qualifications, educational history, and an oral interview. The selection process, to include the oral interviews, will take place within two weeks of the appropriate deadline.

Short Essay

As mentioned previously, our internship program is not merely an observational ride-along. The program is designed to provide educational and work-related experience to the student while he/she does some meaningful work that benefits our agency. Among other things, your application will be evaluated based on the work you are proposing to do while serving as an intern.

Certifications and Assurances

Confidentiality
I understand that all information accessible for law enforcement use, not normally available to non-criminal justice entities, shall be considered privileged. No employee of the Watertown Police Department, to include non-compensated personnel (i.e. Reserve Officers, Explorers, Interns), shall disseminate information to any person or the public at large, or use this information for a any reasons other than for official law enforcement purposes.
Costs Associated with Internship
I understand that there may be costs associated with this internship in addition to the fees and tuition charged by my college or university, and that I am responsible for those costs. I understand the additional costs are related to a drug screen (usually around $75) that will be required prior to beginning the internship and a WPD Intern logo shirt (around $20) that will be worn during my internship.
Photos and Images
I understand that I may be included in photos and/or videos during my internship. I hereby consent to having my photograph and/or video image used in future promotional materials.
Background Investigation and Misrepresentation
I agree to submit to the WPD’s selection process and understand that I must successfully complete this process before being given final consideration for acceptance. I understand that the Watertown Police Department reserves the right to deny entry into the internship program based on the findings of a background check. I realize that falsification or misrepresentation on any portion of the application may result in my not being accepted into the program.
